Kansas Authors Club Literary Contest  

Theme contest pays $50, $25 and $15, with two unpaid honorable mentions. All other categories will be awarded three places: $25, $15, and $10, with two unpaid honorable mentions.

Prose categories are: Theme Contest: Writing Across Kansas: A Sense of Place (fiction or nonfiction), Humor (fiction or nonfiction) - Limit 1,000 words, Memoir or Inspirational (nonfiction) - Limit 1,500 words, Flash Fiction - Limit 500 words, Stories Written for Teenagers (ages 13-19, fiction or nonfiction), - Limit 1,000 words, Short Story (fiction) - Limit 1,500 words, Playwriting (fiction or non-fiction) – A total of four pages for Act 1, Scene 1 and additional information (can be single-spaced), First Chapter of a Book (fiction or nonfiction) – Limit 2,000 words.

Poetry categories are: Theme Contest:  Writing Across Kansas: A Sense of Place, Classical Poetry, Free Verse: 40-line limit, Narrative Poetry: 40-line limit, Whimsy:  20-line limit, Japanese Poetry, Performance Poetry: no longer than 3 minutes, New Poets: 40-line limit.

Entry fee: $8 for nonmembers
Deadline - June 15, 2020
