Opportunity for a Christian screenplay writer

Posted by Sally Clark on Thursday, March 7, 2013

This opportunity is for a Christian screenplay writer to help write the dialogue for a video series.

This video series will show, in a dramatic format, the true life stories of men who have overcome their same-sex attractions, including the producer’s own story.  The Church is largely ignorant of the reality of how to effectively handle men with these issues, and they tend to either believe that someone cannot become 'straight' or that it is accomplished by "praying away the gay".  This project will show the church what it's really like so that 1) the Church can cultivate sympathy for fellow believers who have misunderstood struggles, and 2) those who do not want their same-sex attractions can find effective help.

When California outlawed the therapy (for minors) that had been so effective, (similar measures are now underway in New Jersey and Washington, but they aren't restricting it to minors), the producer realized he could not keep his story a secret.  He is uniquely qualified to do something like this: he was the video director at his church's college ministry while in undergrad. They saw something like 350-450 students per week.  He has compiled the true stories of men he knows and trusts who have overcome their same-sex attractions, most of whom are now opposite-sex attacked (such as himself).  He has written story arcs for two seasons, detailed synopses of episodes, and 2/3rds of the dialogue for the pilot episode but he realizes he is a technical writer and he writes crummy dialogue.

The producer is now looking for a Christian writer to help write the dialogue for the pilot episode (target 45 minutes or so).  He is currently auditioning cast for the trailer, which he will use to try to gain support to produce the first episode, but at this time, payment is extremely uncertain.  The producer may end up paying for the whole thing out of his own savings.
