Stones Before the Ocean: A Worship Poetry Anthology

Stones Before the Ocean: A Worship Poetry Anthology

This is an open call for poems that are interesting and creative, that reflect who God is. That isn’t to say that they shouldn’t be in a certain style or follow a form, more that they really express our worship in fresh ways rather than simply saying for instance that God is Holy, or Jesus is Love. They think poetry is best when it delves into these ideas and finds new language to describe something like holiness for example in fresh way rather than relying on clichés.

They are looking for poems that are honest. Hopefully there will be plenty of uplifting poems but they really want these poems to be honest and real, like the Psalms are, we are encouraged to come to worship as we are with our doubts, failings, struggles, weaknesses and they want there to be space for these poems in this book.

They are looking for poems by people from all different walks of life and of whatever age. They would like this to be a unifying resource that brings as many of God’s people together as possible with our offerings of worship. They want this to be an ecumenical project, that is to say they hope that whatever Christian tradition you are from (Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Messianic Jewish, Nazarene, Emergent, non denominational, Pentecostal, etc…) you will have something to share. We may have contrasting views and doctrines but as your poems are brought together in this book but we hope that we can hold these in tension that in doing so we can explore the mystery and beauty of who God is.

They are that submissions for each poem are no longer than 40 lines. If you want to submit multiple poems you are welcome but please send no more than 3. Deadline is October 1, 2016.
